Project Odin is an Upcoming 2020 Mobile MMORPG

Who here remembers Shadow of the Colossus? Man, that was an incredible game. I remember pouring days straight into it as a kid and when it came out remastered.. yikes.
There are very few games that have killed my social life over the years, and that was one of them.
So when I heard that there was a brand new MMORPG in development that was heavily inspired by Shadow of the Colossus – or, okay, maybe not heavily inspired by, but sharing significant similarities with, I was ecstatic.
Looking at the trailer, the game feels like a AAA budget console game, and getting something that looks this good on mobile devices is incredibly difficult.
Then I read up on who it’s developed by: Lionheart Studio, a South Korean developer, and it kinda made sense. Only South Korean devs make graphics as focal a point as this seems to be.
And that is simultaneously also a concern of mine, since a lot of South Korean MMOs – and more specifically, mobile games are very pay-to-win and heavy on microtransactions.

I don’t know how familiar you all are with Norse mythology, but I’m pretty enthralled with it.
Some of you might’ve already been fans of it before the Thor movies, but you can’t say that trilogy didn’t play a part in you at the very least Googling around a little more about various mythological gods like Odin, Loki, Thor or Freyja.
Project Odin is actually set within that very same universe – of course it’s going to be quite a bit different, as will the characters be, from who you’ve grown up with if you’re a fan of the Marvel movies, or even the God of War games.
Seriously though, when mobile games look this damn good it’s hard to really criticize them. While yes, the vast majority of mobile games look nowhere this good, but every so often we get something that looks truly epic.

Currently, the devs behind Project Odin have yet to confirm that the game will ever release outside of South Korea, but let’s be honest.. when don’t South Korean mobile games release internationally? It’s more money for little investment.
Yet while there’s no definitive mention of a launch outside of South Korea, it is expected to launch within the country itself sometime during 2020.
Specifics are unconfirmed, but nevertheless with progress that has been made thus far and the general development cycle for mobile games, it likely isn’t going to take all that much longer.

As of this moment, barely anything is known about the game.
We don’t know if these are 100% in-game graphics, we don’t know if the combat is going to be fast or slow, action based or something completely different.
Yet I’m still pretty excited. I love hearing we’ll be getting new MMORPGs – regardless if they’re for PC or Mobile devices.
While I am predominantly a PC gamer – I do dabble in the mobile scene, and I do love exploring different mobile MMOs to see how faithful they are to the genre, or how contrastingly different they are from what we’re used to.
Some of the time they’re not even MMOs even though they label themselves as such.
I’m excited to see the kind of MMO this turns out to be. Whether in fact the game turns out to be a large-scale multiplayer game, a survival game or a full-fledged MMO.
Regardless, the game looks beautiful and if it’s anything like Shadow of the Colossus, then I couldn’t be happier.

Honestly, I hope it’s an open-world action MMORPG with those large, hulking monsters acting like world bosses, but I doubt we’re that lucky.
