League of Maidens: My First Hours in the Game

League of Maidens: My First Hours in the Game

I’ve been pushing League of Maidens content for quite a while now. Over a year by this point, I believe. So it was quite a surreal experience to finally be presented with the opportunity to play a game I’ve not only been anticipating for so long, but also been hyping for as long as I have been with this game.

League of Maidens is a brand new upcoming online action RPG. It features a selection of different races, different classes and different faction to choose between. Regardless of what you choose, however, you become a “Maiden,” a being with superhuman strength, agility, and.. physical attributes.

This is an interesting take on the superhero genre, one I wasn’t quite expecting having watched the gameplay trailers but at the same time one that I definitely found myself enjoying quite a bit more than I thought I would.

It has a lot of RPG mechanics: Questing, levels, exploration, but it definitely suffers from much the same as the majority of RPGs: Repetition. While you do have a large city to explore–while there are various instances, a plethora of different NPCs and a variety of different enemies to engage, for the most part I found myself just running from point A to point B then back to point A to complete the mission I did at point B. And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that – there isn’t, really, this is a formula that many MMOs and RPGs alike follow – I was hoping to see a little more.. depth to the world. Which isn’t to say there won’t be – this is after all a game developed by less than a handful of developers: 3 to be exact. And I can safely say that with a team this size, this is a game that defies all logic, and ultimately ended up being significantly better than it should have been.

Yes it has its issues–issues that I hope are solved with time. But otherwise, this was a great few hours spent and I look forward to delving further, deeper into what League of Maidens has to offer. Especially given that games typically get progressively better the further you push through them, and the issues I have with this might be resolved the more I play it.
