Is Phantasy Star Online 2 Finally Playable?

So, June 10th’s maintenance was supposed to fix the vast majority of issues players were having with the game, issues that were preventing them from accessing it. With the maintenance now having been completed for over 48 hours, is Phantasy Star Online 2 actually playable? Or should you continue to avoid it until the game is in a working state? That’s what we’re here to talk about today.

While the PSO2 Twitter page mostly consists of updates regarding the Fresh Finds Shop, the new Sonic collaboration in light of his 20th birthday and more, it’s worth noting that the maintenance didn’t go off without incident. Rather, the maintenance encountered various bugs that ended up extending the maintenance for several hours, before finally concluding. Furthermore, according to the PSO2 Twitter, there was actually an nProtect GameGuard error that prevented players from playing – this was something completely new and unexpected, but thankfully was dealt with before the maintenance had passed.
That wasn’t the only issue, though. While several of the most alarming issues have all but been resolved, including the lobby lag (which is no longer present!,) there are still some glaring errors that need fixing.
In light of this, the official PSO2 website has posted a blog titled “WINDOWS 10: DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE” where they aim to fix the remaining issues: Issues concerning downloading and updating. Players have reported having to re-download the entirety of the game after the new patch, they’ve had their update time out completely, received errors after successfully downloading the update, with the update not processing itself.
But despite all of this, the game remains much more playable than ever before in North America on PC, and I feel as though they’ve done a solid job fixing a variety of the problems that were arising. We’re far from having a fully-playable game, but it’s a step in the right direction that will surely allow the vast majority of players to play and enjoy the game with the odd exception of potentially being forced to re-download the game during updates.
