Eternal Radiance is a Promising New Steam RPG
So here’s a game that was recommended to me the other day: Eternal Radiance. I was supposed to do a video on this sooner but I’d forgotten all about it until today.
So, Eternal Radiance is a brand new Action JRPG released onto Steam in Early Access on April 14th. This was after they’d met their Kickstarter goal and raised almost $75,000 in funding from over 1,500 backers.
According to their Kickstarter page, Eternal Radiance is inspired by classic action JRPGs.
You take on the role of a squire named Celeste and follow her on her journey across the continent in an attempt to no doubt thwart an evil, sinister plot from taking place.
The game will feature fully character-driven interactions between both Celeste and each of her party members, with the game providing an emphasis on storytelling.
The combat, as can be seen from the trailer itself is pretty solid. It isn’t nearly as fluid as some AAA titles and could definitely use some polish in the long-term, but since this is in Early Access they have plenty of room for improvement.
Celeste’s fighting style specifically can be customized by making use of various different talents within the talent tree and upgrade system.
There are plenty of special attacks from what we’ve seen so far and while everything looks a little basic, it still feels pretty good.
There will be fully functional towns and dungeons to both explore and pillage in search for treasure, and plenty of quests to do – some of which allow for you to delve deeper into your characters’ back-stories.
Interestingly, there seem to be 3 different main characters, all of which are female: Celeste, Valana and Ruby. They’re all absolutely adorable and play a pivotal part in the game’s story.
It is worth noting that this isn’t the first time they’ve run a Kickstarter for this game. Originally, the game had a different title “Destiny Chronicles,” and unfortunately at the time neither Kickstarter came to fruition.
However, Eternal Radiance more than met their goal, and almost tripled what they were looking for which shows that players were much happier with the progress that had been made up until this point.
Overall, from what I’ve seen of the game and what I’ve heard from other players who actually purchased their way into the Early Access, the game is much better than they’d expected.
For those of you that have played one of the “Atelier” games then this is probably the closest thing you could make a comparison to.
The running animations need a little work, but other than that, this game looks like it has a lot of potential.
A lot of RPG’s are releasing this year, and more indie developed RPGs are in the works than ever – so there’s a substantial amount of competition in the niche right now.
Eternal Radiance is expected to release out of Early Access in 2021.
They’re looking to release not only onto Steam, but also PS4 and the Switch. This should make the game easily available for everyone.. unless you’re an XBox player.
