Counter Side is an Upcoming RPG Like Closers Online

I love action games. I’ve played my fair share of side-scrolling action RPGs on mobile devices, PC and even throughout my life on various consoles.
However, at the same time even with all the time invested into the genre I’ve never really been all that fond of them. I’m much more a fan of either action combat or tab-target combat with normal third-person or first-person camera angles.
But then that’s just a matter of personal preference as opposed to a general dislike of the style all together. I have enjoyed several side-scrolling brawler games over my life as a gamer after all.
Nevertheless, Nexon – yes, Nexon, I know a lotta you guys hate Nexon and wish they’d cease operations all together – announced last week that an upcoming RPG they’re currently collaborating on, Counter Side, was opening pre-registration for the game.

At first glance, Counter Side seems quite similar to Closers Online. They have similar combat, they have a similar “urban” setting, and heck, even have the same style of gameplay: Side-scrolling action.
And that is because Studiobside, the South Korean developer behind the game actually worked on various PC titles like Closers in the past.
Yup – in essence, we’re going to be getting a Mobile version of Closers Online, only more updated and probably with more microtransactions. And that’s pretty sick.
If you’ve watched my main channel MMOByte, then you’d know that I love Closers Online. I played it when En Masse launched it officially in North America, and played the private servers for it a year before that.

Like most mobile games of its kind, Counter Side is going to task players with progressing through the world collecting various characters for their team.
I’m unsure of the exact plot for the game – something about a battle between two different worlds. Unfortunately, not a whole lot is known about the project as of writing.
Combat both looks and plays a lot like Closers Online. You move horizontally across the field doing battle with various enemies.
You’ll have a selection – a currently unknown number of skills with which to wreak havoc on the battlefield, but knowing the limitations of mobile devices, it would be likely we won’t be able to utilize more than a few at any given time.
It looks as though you’ll be playing through the game with characters, but it’s unknown whether or not you’ll have much in the way of character creation, nor character customization.

The game, from what little has been revealed, definitely looks like it could potentially be a lotta fun. Again, I’m not overly fond of side-scrolling brawlers but I did enjoy Closers and do enjoy Dungeon Fighter Online.
So there’s the potential to enjoy myself with Counter Side.
There is currently no official release date or scheduled testing phase for the game at this moment, nor have Nexon announced their intention to release the game overseas but knowing Nexon, it’s likely they will.
I feel like this might be a fun game to waste a little time in since I know a lotta you guys are awfully fond of Gacha games. However, knowing Nexon’s track record at the same time I’m always reluctant to get excited for anything they publish.
While I do believe this is a very cool concept and would love to have a Closers-esque game on mobile devices, I don’t think I trust Nexon enough to really want to devote much time to it.
