Riot Games is Making a League of Legends MMORPG

Riot Games confirmed earlier this week via a series of Tweet’s from Ghostcrawler that the developer is currently in the process of hiring for their brand new MMORPG project.

This is a project that they’ve been brainstorming for a little while now, and fans are going wild. It has been confirmed that while this new League of Legends MMORPG is a full-fledged MMO, it will also be set within the League of Legends universe, meaning that the story behind the game will no doubt tie in with the lore behind the MOBA.

Now I’m sure you’re all wondering what type of game this is going to be, but unfortunately other than the announcement that the game is definitely going to be an MMO and set within the League universe, we’ve got nothing else to go off of. We don’t know if the LoL MMO will feature action or tab-target combat, a sandbox, open or segregated world, 3D or 2D graphics. We know nothing at all. But that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating.

Nevertheless, this is a very grandiose project. This could potentially be the largest MMORPG ever made – with League of Legends having over 100,000,000 players that could all migrate on over to the MMO–especially if this ultimately ends up going free-to-play.

I’m excited and I cannot wait to see where the game ends up going. I hope this doesn’t crash and burn, and wish Riot Games all the best with this new project of theirs. We need some solid competition in the genre.
