The New Ashes Of Creation MMORPG Is Looking Better And Better!

My name is Stix, and today I wanna talk to everyone about an upcoming MMORPG called Ashes of Creation.

So if you haven’t already heard about Ashes of Creation yet let me give you a quick rundown of what it is.

Right, so Ashes of Creation is often described as being an open world MMORPG shaped by the actions players make over the course of the game.

To uh.. further clarify what that means, Ashes of Creation plans on more or less being a player driven game, with a player driven economy, and environments created and run by players.
Okay, so, for example, players are given the option to purchase blocks of land, right? And after purchasing that land, you can, for example, turn that land into a little village.
With successful trade agreements between other player created villages, your village can grow into a bustling city hub.
Or, if you’re not into all that jazz, you can instead opt to protect the trade routes that keep the towns flourishing. Because they will definitely need protection.
Given that you’re able to assist in the progress of a town by protecting caravans that are trading between villages, naturally there would be the.. let’s go ahead and say.. morally ambiguous not at all evil alternate route your character can take, instead choosing to become a brigand, raiding and looting said caravans, leading to the villages ultimate destruction.

That’s right – in Ashes of Creation you can both build up towns and villages, while simultaneously being given the option to tear down other peoples as well.
While this may not appeal to everyone, it seems like the general direction several Western MMORPGs are trying to go lately.
I’m honestly not sure if this is just a phase or if people are generally longing for this feature, but we’ll see how it pans out upon release.

Another thing that was revealed is player housing.
While not an original feature by any means these days, Ashes of Creation attemps to take things a little further giving you a large amount of freedom over what kind of home you create.
Supposedly, you’re given the option of anything from a tiny little farm-land, to a huge multi-story mansion.
Do note however that they have pointed out that the world “can be a dangerous place”, and definitely made a point to mention that “nothing lasts forever”.

The devs claim you are given the option to “Pave whatever path you desire”, giving you complete freedom over your character.

From what I’ve been able to gather, Ashes of Creation is an open world PvP MMORPG, meaning players can go around killing each other.
However, do note that there is a “karma” system in place to attempt to reduce the amount of ganking that goes on between players.
I am personally unsure of how much this will realistically assist in the prevention of people camping each other or just killing to grief other players, though.
Regardless, being a fan of open world PvP, this seems like a pro in my opinion, but I do know some people may not think the same.

There are 4 races along with 4 classes to choose from in Ashes of Creation.
Which does seem a little small, especially for an MMORPG, but with such a small handful of classes they may be able to maintain class balance a lot easier.
That’s definitely a plus! Although not having much variety to choose between with regards to races may make people interested in RPing a little disheartened to try.

Ashes of Creation isn’t open and available for play just yet – instead – it’s in Alpha testing; the devs only giving out access to a small select few.

Now, will Ashes of Creation be a good game? Eh. The idea is great. The game looks great – kinda reminds me of Age of Conan to be honest.
But in all honesty, some of the features could end up being more of a nuisance than something I can fully get behind and invest large amounts of time into.
