My Personal Top 10 Best MMORPGs You Should Be Playing RIGHT NOW 2017!

My Personal Top 10 Best MMORPGs You Should Be Playing RIGHT NOW 2017!

Today I want to talk about my personal favorite MMORPGs right now However I would like to preface this video by stating that this is my personal opinion; Stix has done a video similar to this in the past, but as this is my list our opinions will likely differ. In light of that hopefully you guys enjoy and agree with this list of the ten best MMORPGs to play right now!

Blade and Soul

The reasons I enjoy playing Blade and Soul are pretty simply. Blade and Soul is one of the few MMORPGs I’ve played with with a functional story beyond “Go to x hub and complete x quest”. Story in an MMORPG to me is important as I feel somewhat detached from the overall world if there isn’t a basic plot to follow, and although I don’t personally read side-quest text, I always make certain to immerse myself in the game lore. Coupled with a graphical style that I absolutely love – I mean seriously, Blade and Soul looks amazing. Nobody can deny that. Even to this day, Blade and Soul looks amazing. Finally, having a unique combat style that utilizes a talent tree that I thought long-gone in MMORPGs to fully compliment your playstyle, Blade and Soul makes for one hell of an MMORPG to play through.

Bless Online

Bless Online – unfortunately, still hasn’t come out in the West yet. Nevertheless, we have been playing on the Russian servers until their recent closure, and do plan on migrating over to the Korean servers until its eventual release in the West. Bless Online may not look as fancy as things like Moonlight Blade or Blade and Soul, but it is still a pretty damn nice looking game. Since I played with the English patch on, I had a basic understanding of the story. What really captivated me about Bless though was its huge world, beautiful character models, and the fact that you can FLY! Rarely do MMORPGs give you the ability to actually explore a truly large, fun open world, let alone explore it by air! Bless, though, allows for complete aerial exploration, and it is an absolute blast!

Dragon's Dogma Online

Having played Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and enjoying the HELL out of it, when I heared that there was an Online version the game, even in Japanese, I was ecstatic! Dragon’s Dogma Online feels just like it’s non MMO counterpart, it has a deep rooted story, though it’s still set around you being an Arisen. The Combat found in Dragon’s Dogma Online is exactly like that of Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen. You’re still able to climb monsters and terrain. Vocations can still be freely changed, and swapped for you and your pawn companion, and with the English patch that’s constantly being updated by dedicated fans, you can understand most of the story content, which is of course very important. Dragon’s Dogma Online doesn’t feel like a normal MMORPG, it feels like a traditional JRPG that you can play with your friends. Considering how popular it seems to be in Japan. Having at least 50 channels full of players, I can’t begin to understand why this amazing MMORPG hasn’t made it to the west yet, since I’m sure, much like me, many westerners would love the opportunity to play Dragon’s Dogma Online in full English, but alas, I’ll take what I can get.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Probably one of my 3 favorite MMORPGs of all time, Final Fantasy XIV is the closest thing I can find to a masterpiece. The leveling experience in Final Fantasy XIV can be tedious for first time players but the sheer amount of content found throughout the game, the voice acting, the features.. it truly is no surprise that the game is able to retain its pay to play model. I mean other than World of Warcraft, there really aren’t any other pay to play MMORPGs worth investing time nor money into. Yet, anyway. The reason I enjoy Final Fantasy XIV is the fact that there is such a strong emphasis on its story – and I mean there is an emphasis on it. Along with the fact that you can level every single class in the game from 1 single character. Yes, you are fully able to change class at any time outside of PvP and dungeons or raids, and you even have the ability to cross-spec different skills for different class making for some unique customizability! Then we have the fact that the game has already received one expansion, with another on the horizon. The game is constantly being updated with new content patches and you can literally waste away enjoying it.

Moonlight Blade

I’m a huge fan of martial arts movies so naturally Moonlight Blade is right up my alley! Both Stix and I used to watch martial arts movies like Crouching Tiger: Hidden Dragon, Iron Monkey, Once Upon A Time In China and the like, but were disappointed with MMORPGs we’d tried out in the past like Age of Wushu and Swordsman Online. They weren’t bad games, but.. they just didn’t.. really capture the fluidity and essence of what we believe the wuxia genre really does.. if that makes sense? Moonlight Blade, though, oh does it capture, and capture well the wuxia theme! We haven’t leveled to a high enough point yet to be able to glide through the air efficiently, but from what we’ve played through, and what we’ve seen, the large world that you inhabit, the combat, and feel of the game really takes a hold of you. It’s also strange that there are no monsters in the game – solely human enemies!

Guild Wars 2

This is a funnier one as originally I started out disliking Guild Wars 2. I found it confusing that there were no quests, I found it strange that you weren’t required to constantly run back and forth between NPCs and traditional quest hubs. Then I found it confusing actually fighting. There are multiple stances. There are multiple weapon types. Everything has their own unique skill trees, buffs, debuffs. Everything works in tandom with everything else and I felt overwhelmed. After investing into it further and getting a little help though I managed to overcome what originally frustrated me about the game and grew to enjoy the game for what it offered: A welcome change to the norm. Guild Wars 2 is a beautifully crafted MMORPG – from its incredibly detailed combat system, to its largely filled world. Add in the fact that everyone in the zone is synced down to a base level makes progressing back through earlier zones entertaining as you’re able to party up with and assist lower level players without being incredibly overpowered, ruining the experience for them.

Soul Worker Online

I feel as though there may be an influx of Action MMORPGs here which I do apologize for. I’m not the biggest action MMORPG fan but I can appreciate when they are handled correctly. I’m also not really a fan of instanced MMORPGs but Soul Worker Online is one of the few that I feel as though I can truly get behind. It is absolutely packed with story – voice acting – and sidequests making for a much more personal take on the “Dungeon crawler” style MMORPG I believe it is. Soul Worker is an Anime inspired MMORPG – one of the few on this list that actually is. I am, once again, not really into Anime MMORPGs as they feel so empty and void of.. anything. Soul Worker manages to somehow circumvent that normal feeling I get when playing through Anime MMORPGs, maybe because it’s a Japanese MMORPG without a huge population in the West. Maybe the game is just that fun. Regardless, graphically speaking, the Anime feel of the game is beyond adorable. It’s not sexy, it’s cute, and I feel that is very underdone in MMORPGs these days. The combat, likewise, is probably some of the best action combat I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing around with.

Phantasy Star Online 2

Another MMORPG I went into not really knowing what to expect and not enjoying as much as I would have liked. I have played previous Phantasy Star Online games in the past, so I know all about the series, however, I felt as though this game was.. a little detached. The more I progressed through it though (which I do since I don’t judge an MMORPG without giving it a chance,) the more I felt like the game was growing on me. The combat was fairly good. It’s nothing amazing like Soul Worker, but it’s pretty well handled utilizing 3 different weapons equipped at any time to wreak havoc. What really captured me about Phantasy Star Online 2 though is the fact that the story is fantastic! There is so much story, there is so much voice acting and the game is absolutely packed with players. Unfortunately the game is mostly instanced (we have seen the odd person in our instance without permission,) but generally without partying you won’t see anyone out and about in the world.

TERA

Probably my very first proper Action MMORPG, TERA really changed how I view combat in MMORPGs. The kinds of games I played prior to TERA were World of Warcraft, Perfect World, and Pirate King Online. None of which were action – and none of which required you to be able to aim, dodge, and in essence use any kind of skill outside of moving out of an AoE. So, getting into TERA really challenged me as I hadn’t played many action games in general at that point, and learning how to properly use its control scheme was.. interesting! Its graphical style, which was probably the first time I had seen an MMORPG that beautiful absolutely enthralled me at the time. It grabbed my attention instantly and would not let go. It wasn’t until Blade and Soul that I felt the same way about the look of an MMORPG – but I’m going off topic here haha, TERA – with its look and feel, really brought me into this new world of Korean Action MMORPGs that these days people loathe so much. Regardless, with TERA’s fun, engaging, responsive combat, its huge world to explore, its fun PvE utilizing combos and its amazing graphical style – it still, to this day, hooked me to the point where I still play it almost every week.

Monster Hunter Online

Monster Hunter Online is one of those games that just hooks you, Stix and I haven’t been playing it for very long and we already love it, and it’s not even in English, imagin if it was!! So, Monster Hunter Online Isn’t an open world MMORPG, and yet, whilst we were running, trying to figure out what we had to do, I never felt like it we were just running in a straight line, you’re given a bunch of area’s to roam, some are large, filled with monsters, and some can be smaller. One things for sure though, the area’s you visit are very detailed, and from the small amount we’ve witnessed so far, there is a large amount of monster variation. The monsters appearance, isn’t the only thing that varies between them, as the monsters fighting speed or style, and skills keeps the encounters challenging and enjoyable. Monster Hunter Online also has an amazing crafting system similar to that of its non MMO counterpart, that’ll keep you farming Monsters until you can finally get the perfect outfit and weapon.
That’s it for my list of the Top MMORPGs right now, while I know some of the MMORPGs listed aren’t in English, do remember it is a personal list, as I have been asked many times, what MMORPGs “I” believed to be the best, which is why I made this video. I would like to know what MMORPGs you guys like however, so don’t forget to tell me in the comments!

I like your list, I feel like the mmo genre is dying somewhat or evolving. The “golden age” has passed so to speak you know what I mean?
